Sonic catharsis
Founded in 2011, IN THE COMPANY OF SERPENTS traffics in sonic catharsis. Fiercely DIY in their ethics, the band has self-released five LPs, one EP, and one Single since their inception.
Their music inhabits the strange fringes between sludge metal and sprawling spaghetti western scores, constantly conjuring visceral power and raw intensity, contrasted with eerie, spare instrumental passages. While previous works focused largely on occult and esoteric themes, 2025’s A Crack in Everything delves deeply into personal struggle, depression, and grappling with addiction. Threads of esotericism still weave through the record, but it stands apart as a deeply personal effort.
Their two most recent LPs, A Crack in Everything and 2020’s Lux, both garnered widespread praise and were the only independent releases to be featured in Decibel Magazine’s annual Top 40 records in their release years.
